Recent History of the World
Most of the worlds events take place on the Continent of Heimatland, which houses the capital cities to most races and is the seat of power to the Free Peoples Alliance, a coalition of the Humans, Wood Elves, Dwarves and some tribes of Green Orcs. The Free Peoples Alliance was started in the City of Leuchtfeuer, the Capital City of the Human Empire, the second most populous major race on the planet, after the Orcs.
The races that comprise the Free Peoples had always been friendly towards one another, going back quite some distance in history, but nearly seventy years ago raids and all out attacks by the Dark Elves became increasingly bold and numourous, at first it was no real threat. This continued for decades but when reprisal attacks against the Dark Elves became taxing, the Wyches struck back. The Dark Elf Wyches found methods of directing the movements of the nomadic and highly aggressive Black Orcs. By leading these Orcs towards Human, Dwarf and Elf territories, it put massive pressure on the defenders, forcing to reinforce certain areas, leaving others exposed to the attack of the Dark Elves.
It was at this point, that the newly crowned Kaizer of the Humans, a young man named Lothair, who had succeeded his father who passed away due to failing health called for a meeting, with other factions leaders. This meeting forged the Alliance of Free Peoples, while the groups involved had always been civil to one another, they were now a unifed force, sharing information, communicating on a more regular basis and merging military units for the benefit of all. While the Free Peoples were able to easily repel the small Dark Elf raids, dealing with the army of the Black Orc War Chief Grimgutz would be more difficult. His army was one hundred and fifty thousand strong, the largest collection of Black Orcs ever seen. With the aid and magicks of the Dark Elfs, he had stopped much of the infighting, to unify the wandering tribes into one giant wave of Orcs.
The Orcs marched through the Grasiger Pass pass almost without opposition, it was at Reisender that the stand was made. The Human General Oliver Kraust was head of the defence, but it was the Dwarf general Bronzeblade that made the plans that hurt the Orcs the most before they breached the City Walls. When The Orcs launched their assault, it was like a wave of Black and Steel had descended upon the city, siege ladders and rams came in their hundreds. It was half a day before the Orcs managed to get a foothold on the front walls and started to push through. Elf, Human and Dwarf stood side by side as they made the Orcs fight for every blood soaked inch they took. Unorthadox and textbook attacks were made, but the frenzy could not be halted. The body count was beyond reason, at times soldiers had to struggle to climb over piles of dead. There was no halt to the fighting for three days, and then a miracle arrived. Unexpected by anyone, the tribes of Green Orcs and Barbaric Humans arrived from the west, colliding into the Black Orcs that had yet to even enter the city. Suddenly the Black Orcs were caught in a vice grip, the heavily organised and professional but exhausted Defenders on one side, and the fresh, eager and savage Green Orcs and Humans overwhelming the rear of the army. Eventually Grimgutz realised he had been bested, and with one last push they broke past the Greenskins and the Humans at their rear, retreating into the mountains and forests, vowing to return some day.
Twenty years later, and with the western tribes after joining the Alliance of Free Peoples there is a degree of peace, trade is all the stronger between the allies and defences and homes have been rebuilt. But the Dark Elf threat never really dissappeared, Dark Elves still plague wandering travellers and patrols. In the last month, Grimgutz returned, leading a re-organised army of Black Orcs, having constructed a small civilization in the forests and mountains, before stripping them bare of resources to re-equip his troops. Now they prepare to launch an all out assault on Reisender again.
